Welcoming a New Boss!

Lucy Flagstaff

Hello to all my friends, hope you are having some fun this summer and staying cool out there. I’ve been have a good time taking my mom for hikes and swims up in the cooler pines of Flagstaff.

We have big news happening in the world of the Sedona Arts Center – our Executive Director, my good friend and favorite treat source Pam Frazier, has retired. I sure will miss her but she tells me she will return to the Board of Directors so she’ll be around. Oh Yea! Hmmm, Board of Directors – Perhaps a new source of people to give me treats……

In her place we welcome Eric Holowacz as our new Executive Director. Woofs and paws up to you Eric! I’ve already included you in my circle of friends and taught you where that magic tin of treats is located. Okay, so now you have the most important part of the job under control. Everything else is a piece of cake!

As we wander our way to the end of summer – ‘Dog days of summer’ as some two-legged critters call it… don’t quite understand that one…. I’m looking forward to the fall festivities. In September we have the Co-Op Show for artists to set up and sell their work. October brings all those amazing Plein Air artists to town. This is also my favorite time of year. Cooler weather, pretty colors, get a little hiking in, hang out on the front porch – Ahhh, the life of a pampered pooch.

So my friends, see you soon. Stay cool out there!

The Adventures of June

12x12

Happy woofs to you all and welcome to the Adventures of June! As we begin the summer in Sedona I am looking forward to time in the water and long naps on the bed. In between swims and naps there is that thing called work and boy do we have a busy time ahead. On Friday June 12th we are having a big celebration where I work to raise money for the school. My artist friends have gotten together and created all this incredible art that will sell for a whopping good price. I myself might be tempted to buy something for my dog house. If you go online you can see all the nice artwork that has come in and will sell for $250 no matter who the artist is.

For the weekend, June 13 & 14, we celebrate the Spirit of Sedona. Lots of artists will be doing demonstrations and be available to talk with you about their art down in the ‘ol barn. Stop by for art-talk and hamburgers. I’ll be under the grill mopping up…..

In July the cowboys are coming to town. The Cowboy Artists of America will celebrate 50 years of being cowboy artists and we get to host a show of their work. I’ll put the red bandana and boots on (well, maybe not the boots) and be greetin’ you at the door!

So my friends, see you soon. Stay cool out there!

Sure wish I could chase them (woof-woof)

On Saturday, May 9 my friend Joe Lee from Tucson will be here to tell us about the horse in the Navajo culture. The talk is titled Horse: Keeper of the Wilderness, Navajo Beauty Way. The talk will begin at 11 a.m. at the Sedona Arts Center Gallery. I hope you can join us! I’ll be the one in the red bandana….

Spring Time

Woofs to you all and welcome to springtime in Sedona. Ahhh-Choo as my mom says. She thinks my hearing is not so good anymore but I sure can hear it when she yells Ahhh-Choo! I jump a foot and leave the room.

We just celebrated April with the opening reception of ‘Beyond Ordinary’ featuring the art of Gretchen Lopez (known to me as Tia Gretchen), Linda Sherman, Christine Debrosky, Mariann Leahy and April Bower. Wow, what a talented group of artists! Stop by the gallery to give me a pat and check out the show.

Next month we will feature the ‘Mane Attraction’, an equine themed show to celebrate May. The opening reception on Friday May 1 will include Tom Weathers, a cowboy poet. We hope you can join us for the show. I’ll be the one in the red bandana….. On May 9 from 11 til noon we will have a special presentation by my friend Joe Lee. Joe is a member of the Navajo Nation and he is driving all the way to Sedona to enlighten us about the horse in the Navajo culture. And of course to see me. The show is titled “Horse: Keeper of the Wilderness, Navajo Beauty Way”

In May we will also welcome lots of photographers to town for PhotoFest on May 1, 2 & 3. You can check out the website for more info.

For today, I wish you all a Happy Easter. If you haven’t read my blog about the Easter Sunday that brought fish you can check it out – posted April 2014. I was in fish heaven!!

Happy Anniversary!

Lucy PuppyWoof Everyone! Can you believe we have crossed over into a whole new year and already we are starting the second month of this new year…. Time sure does fly, even in dog years!

For me this is a special month for I am celebrating a 14th anniversary. Yup, on February 6 it will be 14 years that I’ve owned my mom. I’ll never forget that day. I was pretty little, not even 8 weeks old and hanging out at a local restaurant called Lazy Wave in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Some people thought I needed a better home so they took me around, knocking on doors to see if anyone wanted me. Everyone thought I was cute but when they saw me walk they all said uh-oh, what’s wrong with the leg. Me, I didn’t know I was supposed to use all four legs when I walked. Since my one leg didn’t work too well I hopped around on the three good legs I had. Seemed fine to me but people would hand me back saying “I hope you find a good home for her”. We kept looking and one day we knocked on a door where a lady and her cat lived. An instant sister! I was getting tired of nobody wanting me so I figured I’d take things into my own paws and when this lady picked me up I burrowed my nose into her neck figuring how could she say no… But then she did! Something about not being ready for a dog, responsibility, Really! I couldn’t believe it, I thought for sure this was the one.

The next day my friends and I were going down the road and here comes the cat lady walking towards us. I didn’t know what to do so I just sat down in the middle of the road. I wanted so much to adopt this lady, and her cat, but she had to want me too. She was talking to my friends and asked if they had found a home for me yet. They answered “no, they were still looking”. All of a sudden I heard words that were magic to my little ears. The cat lady said “We’ll take her”. Really!!

That day I moved in and quickly took over (she was easy to train). You all know the rest.

To update everyone about events at the Sedona Arts Center – “From the Heart” is opening on February 4 in the Special Exhibition Gallery in the old barn. Also this month is the Winter Co-Op show in the Theatre. Be sure to check out these great shows and come on up to the gallery to see me too! We will be featuring the 16 artists who were most recently juried into the gallery. First Friday reception is on February 6 from 5-8.

Happy, Happy Holidays to all

Lucy Holiday 2014 BlogWell, well, well… Happy Tail Wags and wishing you all a good holiday season full of… Yup, you guessed it, TREATS!!

We have our annual Holiday Show up at the gallery. This year the show is called Gather ‘Round to inspire all of us to gather round and enjoy each others company and share stories. Anybody bring the treats?? Lots of the gallery artists brought great art for the show plus handmade ornaments for the trees. Be sure to stop by to say hello to me and check out the show!

From now until the end of December 2014 the gallery is offering a special to anyone who buys $100 or more! Stop by to learn about saving 10% for those of you who aren’t members of the Sedona Arts Center. Those who are,,,, well you will save an extra 5%! And you get to visit me. What could be better?

First Friday was a good time had by all, especially me. I had my jingle bells on and antlers around my ears and I was a party girl extraordinaire. Lots of friends came by and I had to say hello to all plus make a few new friends. Someone (mom) pinned a sign to my antlers telling people not to feed the Reindeer Dog. Awwww, come on, it is the holidays after all. How am I supposed to fatten up for winter?

Next Saturday, December 13 is one of my favorite events here. Loving Bowls will happen from Noon – 3 down at the barn. Over 1200 bowls were made by local potters to be sold at $10 each to benefit 4 local charities. One of the businesses getting the help will be the Sedona Humane Society. Come on by. We even made bowls for your favorite 4-legged companion.

So, you all have a Happy Holiday season and be sure to stop by the gallery to say hi.

The Artists Are In Town!!

It’s that time of year again when we are enjoying the fall colors and with it we celebrate the Plein Air Festival. Once again many of my artist friends are in town to paint on location in Sedona, Jerome and the Alcantara Winery in Cottonwood. Since I’m not allowed to drink I don’t really know what a winery is but I assume it has something to do with not complaining since my mom sometimes tells me “No Whining!!”

We look forward to this time when the artists are around. They sure are a hard working bunch! Up at dawn, paint all day and to bed late in the night. All the while they are expected to paint these wonderful masterpieces for the show. Seems like a lot of work to me and somehow they do it. Me, I prefer to sleep in, breakfast, nap, lunch, nap, walk around, then the big afternoon nap, walk again, dinner, and to bed by 7. Ahhhhhh, my kind of day.

Anyway, we hope you all can come out this week to watch the artists work and then check out the show in the barn. The big shin-dig is Friday night when the paintings are done and people are buying them like crazy. The wine is flowing (there’s that word again) and me, I’m home asleep in my own cozy bed….
